On July 30, 2009, the U.S. Department of Education issued DCL FP-09-06, which includes the approved revised versions of the following deferment requests:

  • In-School;
  • Unemployment ;
  • Economic Hardship;
  • Parent PLUS Borrower;
  • Education Related;
  • Public Service;
  • Temporary Total Disability; and
  • Parental Leave/Working Mother.

These forms were updated to reflect changes to the terms and conditions of the deferments that were made by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and the final regulations published on October 23, 2008.

The expiration date of these revised deferment requests is 05/31/2012.

Program participants may begin distributing the new forms to borrowers immediately. Beginning January 1, 2010, only the revised forms with the 05/31/2012 expiration date may be provided to borrowers. However, the previous versions for the forms may continue to be processed after that date.
